Despite coming in number one at the U.S. box office, ‘The Marvels’ $47 million domestic opening weekend was a major disappointment for superhero movie giant Marvel Studios.
The movie is reportedly Marvel’s lowest opening weekend box office pull since 2008’s ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ which pulled in $55 million.
‘The Marvels’ is just Marvel’s third movie to earn less than $60 million during its debut.
“It may be not so much superhero fatigue, but more an issue of audiences who are looking for a more unique take on this tried-and-true genre,” said Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian.
