Summer blockbuster “Barbie” officially passed $1 billion in global box office earnings just 17 days into its theatrical run, Warner Bros. announced Sunday.
The Greta Gerwig-helmed comedy is now the second-highest grossing movie of the year, sitting just behind “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
The feat also marks the very first time a film directed by only one woman has surpassed the $1 billion dollar mark at the global box office.
Only 53 movies in cinema history have managed to surpass the billion-dollar-threshold, an exclusive list “Barbie” is now part of.
