USMCA is on solid footing despite judicial reforms proposed by Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, according to the American Society of Mexico, an association representing American business interests in Mexico.
The group considers the continuity of the trade agreement guaranteed despite the possible chilling effect of the judicial reforms on the investment climate.
“We believe there are areas of opportunity, especially in the election of judges,” said Amsoc president Larry Rubin in a press conference. “In the United States local judges are elected, but this process is accompanied by an exhaustive process to ensure that peole on the ballot have an impeccable professional trajectory and very strong ethics.”
The Amsoc represents American businesses such as Exxon, Honeywell and Astrazeneca.The USMCA will be up for review in 2026.
