Telegram tweeted that it was “absurd to claim that a platform or its owner are responsible for abuse of that platform” as founder Pavel Durov remained held in detention by French authorities.
Durov was arrested at 20:00 local time in Bourget airport outside Paris as he arrived in his private jet.
Known as the “Russian Zuckerberg” Durov holds French and United Arab Emirates passports since leaving Russian in 2014 due to conflicts with the Russian government. He reported was targeted by French arrest warrant.
Telegram added on X that it abides by EU laws and that its moderation is within industry standards and “constantly improving.”
Almost a billion users globally use Telegram.
