U.S. satellite radio service SiriusXM has found itself in legal trouble with the New York attorney general’s office following allegations that the company intentionally trapped clients into unwanted subscriptions.
During her announcement of the suit, New York Attorney General Letitia James said that SiriusXM was found to “force its subscribers to call or chat online with an agent to cancel a subscription, then deliberately draws out those interactions as part of its strategy.”
The New York AGO is reportedly pursuing compensation for clients affected by the practices alongside fraud penalties and restitution to the state.
Likewise, James indicated that the suit seeks for SiriusXM to “implement a simple and easy-to-use cancellation process.”
