Choosing a new laptop is a not an easy task since there are a vast variety of products in the market. This just makes it confusing for people to choose the best one for themselves. There are way too many options to pick from. To simplify this process we will give you a set of criteria, some basic things other than budget, which everyone should think about before buying a new device:

1. Size

Laptops vary in size from 12 inches to 17 inches. However, it all depends on what you intend to use the device for. Picking the ideal size is thus very important. Devices ranging from 12 to 14 inches are portable apart from being thinner and lighter than the others.

These include EliteBooks and Ultrabooks. Traditional Notebooks are around 15.6 inches, which makes them a good blend of portability and power for you. Convertible devices can turn into a tablet as the keyboard either detaches or folds. Some also have the option of touch screens. These devices are available in almost all brands, such as HP, Dell, Asus, and Lenovo.

2. CPU

Processing speed is another important factor when looking for a new laptop. Most devices are equipped with Intel’s Core Based CPU’S, such as i3, i5, i7 and i9 series. You can look for one according to your needs. The i3 series of laptops have enough power to perform all basic tasks.

But the i5 processor is mainly found in most of the high-end laptops. i7 is for people who require the best performance from their machines. On the other hand, the i9’s are even more powerful than i7’s.

3. RAM

You can always upgrade the RAM of your new laptop. Almost all devices have a minimum RAM of 4GB. However, if your usage involves heavier applications, you should consider at least 8GB or 16GB of RAM.

4. Storage

Another important thing to look for when buying a new laptop is its storage, as nobody would want the storage space of their device to run out. Previously, hard drives were used in many laptops, but today’s machines are equipped with Solid State Drives (SSDs).

SSDs can increase the overall performance of the device, as they offer higher speed. They can load data much faster during the system boot up. Therefore, if you’te searching for a new laptop, try to look for the device that comes with an SSD.

5. Other Things to Consider

When searching for a new laptop, you should also look for other factors, such as battery time, display quality, keyboard features and Build Quality, just to name a few. Such features are add-ons in your search of an ideal laptop.

The Takeaway

You may get confused and find it difficult to reach a decision. However, if you follow the simple tips above, it will make the whole process of buying a new laptop much simpler. Hopefully, now, you will be able to get the best device to meet your needs.
