On Wednesday, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced new threatened species protections for the North American Wolverine.
The move comes after decades of debate over the species’ purported endangerment under the provisions of the Endangered Species Act.
Only approximately 300 of the species survive in sparsely populated packs across the Rocky Mountains.
According to the Fish and Wildlife Service, the new protections under the Endangered Species Act are “due primarily to the ongoing and increasing impacts of climate change and associated habitat degradation and fragmentation.”
