According to a former World Bank official, developing nations across the world will require more than $1 trillion per year to make progress in their respective climate transitions.
This funding would allow the countries to move away from fossil fuels and carbon emissions in favor of renewable energy alternatives, said Mari Pangestu.
However, without significant financial resources, the nations in question will be unlikely to meet international climate standards.
Developing countries’ continued pollution levels are expected to be a large source of contention at the upcoming G20 climate meeting this September.
