When it comes to making electric vehicles appealing to U.S. consumers, a lack of available charging infrastructure is reportedly hampering auto manufacturers’ ability to expand their market footholds.
According to a June study conducted by Cox Automotive, 32% of Americans considering purchasing an EV were put off from following through due to a reported “lack of charging stations in my area.”
Likewise, Consumer Reports found in August that “charging logistics,” alongside “purchase price,” prevented U.S. consumers from pulling the trigger on an EV purchase.
Currently, 21,000 of the 32,000 available EV charging stations across the United States belong to Tesla, which uses its own proprietary charger unadaptable to other manufacturers’ EVs.
