A new report from German reinsurance company Munich Re claims that earthquakes and thunderstorms cost the globe a massive $250 million in damages during 2023.

According to Munich Re, thunderstorms caused $66 billion in damages in North America alone last year.

Meanwhile, devastating thunderstorms reportedly brought Europe a price tag of $10 billion in 2023.

“If we as a society don’t put more weight on this topic of resilience then losses, especially from weather-related events, will most likely go up in the future. It will become more and more, not just an economic challenge, but a social challenge as well,” said Munich Ge Chief Scientist Ernst Rauch.
