Hunger Games prequel earns $99 million globally as ‘The Marvels’ tumbles

‘The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ pulled in $98.5 million at the global box office on its debut weekend, just shy of analysts’ $100 million estimates.

The Francis Lawrence-directed flick earned $44 million domestically with another $45.5 million coming in from overseas.

Meanwhile, ‘The Marvels’ took a 79% tumble at the box office on its second weekend, the second biggest second-weekend drop seen in Marvel history.

With this in mind, ‘The Marvels’ may also be the first movie in the MCU to fail to earn $100 million at the domestic box office.
