Deaths, Trump and Game of Thrones lead Wikipedia’s most common searches during 2017.

More than ever before, 2017 was a year where people became attached to their mobile devices while searching for diverse topics, and as last year turned out to be a tumultuous one in the U.S., English Wikipedia became the place of choice where readers learned about the year’s most compelling stories.

And so, Wikipedia, in the spirit of offering knowledge, trivia, opinions, and ideas to its users, shared the Top 50 Report for 2017, aiming to educate, engage, entertain, and enthrall.

Among key findings, the full list of deaths during 2017 became the most searched-for article of the year, as over 37 million people felt eager to know who died in 2017.

According to the free online encyclopedia, Donald Trump reached over 29 million views last year just the three weeks after his election and became top story number 2.

Queen Elizabeth, Game of Thrones: Season 7, and Meghan Markle completed the top five of Wikipedia’s list as they came across over 16 and 19 million readers, respectively.

Accompanying past mentions were the Bollywood films of 2017, Game of Thrones, United States, Bitcoin and Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why.

As the list continues, over 14 million viewers searched for information regarding Baahubali 2, the second film in the Indian blockbuster series; It 2; Queen Victoria, the list of highest-grossing Indian films; actress Gal Gadot and the Logan Film which was released in March.

In other interesting findings, Dwayne Johnson, the Justice League film, Elon Musk, Facebook, Millennials, Get Out film, Conor McGregor, O.J. Simpson, Charles Manson, Melania Trump, Thor: Ragnarok, Pablo Escobar and World War II also made the 50 most read articles of the year.
