Here are some fun facts about February 14th: Valentine’s Day.
Every year we celebrate Valentine´s Day, the day of love and friendship, but how did this begin?
According to Brock Built, Emperor Claudius II had banned marriage because he thought it distracted young soldiers.
After this happened, the most common founder known as Saint Valentine started illegally marrying couples until he was caught and sentenced to death, which came on February 14th.
Since that day, young couples used to visit his grave taking candy and flowers, starting a tradition we continue to practice to this day.
However, it was not until the 17th century when people started exchanging cards and letters; in A.D. 496, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 as Valentine’s Day. Cards weren’t mass-produced until the 1840s.
