“Joker: Folie a Deux,” the sequel to the 2019 Joker movie, brought in a disappointing $40 million in its first weekend.
Low sales were attributed to harsh reviews and lukewarm audience reaction by market analysts. The film garnered 31% rating on film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
The film had been expected to bring in between $50 million and $70 million with a budget of $200 million.
The first Joker movie brought in $1.07 billion worldwide raising expectations for the sequel featuring Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix.
