Ford announced Friday that it is recalling up to 1.39 million F-150 pickups due to a risk of unexpected downshifting that can cause a loss of vehicle control.
The recall involves certain 2015 to 2017 F-150 trucks and addresses a loss of signal between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module that can cause the transmission to shift into second gear.
Dealers will update the software for the powertrain control module. Owners will receive notification letters about the safety risk starting on April 27, with additional letters to be sent once the final fix is ready, expected in July.
The most recent recall comes after Ford’s March recall of more than 250,000 SUVs due to an unexpected reset of an image processing software.
