Billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic managed to launch three tourists into space on Thursday morning, a major milestone for the space tourism country.
The VSS Unity took off from Virgin Galactic’s spaceport in New Mexico at 8:30 a.m. local time and reportedly reached 50 miles above the earth’s surface, what the U.S. government classifies as the edge of outer space.
The tourists were able to experience several minutes of weightlessness at the peak of the vehicle’s one-hour journey.
The VSS Unity then touched back down in New Mexico at 9:30 a.m. local time.
