Technology giant Google agreed to pay a $93 million settlement to the state of California surrounding allegations that it illegally collected Californian consumers’ data without their consent.
According to the California Department of Justice, Google had been “deceiving users by collecting, storing, and using their location data for consumer profiling and advertising purposes without informed consent.”
California Attorney General Rob Bonta went on to say that Google agreed to put preventative measures in place to prevent the illegal data collection from occuring again.
The news comes amid Google’s ongoing antitrust case in Washington D.C.
