Taiwanese chipmaking giant TSMC to invest $100 billion in U.S.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world’s largest contract chipmaker, announced a record-high monthly revenue for August on Thursday, fueled by sustained strong demand for chips used in artificial intelligence applications.

The company reported last month’s revenue of NT$514.8 billion ($16.35 billion), reflecting a 53.3% increase compared to the previous year and a 10.1% rise from July.

The company’s monthly revenue has increased consecutively for four months now.

The Taiwanese tech giant announced a profit increase of over 77% compared to the previous year in the second quarter and projected third-quarter revenue ranging from $44.6 billion to $45.8 billion.

TSMC continued to dominate the global foundry industry with a 72.5% market share in the second quarter.

The firm noted that high demand for AI server processors resulted in TSMC’s advanced 5-, 4-, and 3-nanometer capacities being fully booked throughout the quarter.

TSMC announced plans to adopt ASML’s High NA technology for large-scale manufacturing of advanced nodes beginning in 2030. The use of this technology is expected to grow as AI applications demand more complex transistor architectures.

TSMC shares declined by 0.61% on Thursday prior to the revenue announcement.
