New features are coming to Apple’s iOS 18 operating system this fall, the company announced this week at its developers conference, including artificial intelligence tools. Only the newest iPhone 15 will be able to use the entirety of the coming AI features, but all iPhone users will see upgrades when the system is released.

When it comes to sending text messages, Apple will be introducing the Rich Communications Technology (RCS), which should improve the security and quality of messagings between iOS and Android devices. Users will also be able to schedule text messages and choose from a series of animated tap backs.

“Apple Intelligence,” the company’s new AI platform, will utilize Siri to manage and prioritize notifications, as well as summarize text in searches, emails and other apps. New AI features will also be able to write text for the user.

iOS 18 will also give users more ability to customize their home screens by different ways to rearrange apps and resize icons and widget and provides more options in the control center to use for one-tap functions and third-party apps. Finally, the majority of Apple devices—iPhones, iPad, Macs and Vision Pro—will offer a dedicated passwords app that lets users store their passwords in one space and alert you when certain passwords are compromised.
