A lawsuit filed last week by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s banning TikTok is being challenged on the grounds that it is compromising research and teaching at public universities.
The ban of TikTok on state devices and networks in Texas is being legally protested by First Amendment lawyers, who say the law violates the Constitution by limiting research and teaching at public universities.
The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Coalition for Independent Technology Research.
The suit could be a precedent for other states and government bodies that have tried to ban TikTok.
