Although supporters of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump differ on a wide variety of viewpoints, a survey from Pew Research Center found that the majority of both sides believe that the U.S. economic system unfairly supports powerful interests. Pew Research Center’s survey polled more than 8,700 register voters between April 8 and 14, 2024.
Eighty-five percent of registered voters who support the reelection of Biden say they believe that America’s economic system unjustly favors powerful interest, while just 14% believe that the system is generally fair. For voters who support Trump, 62% say that the system favors powerful interests, and 37% believe that it’s fairly.
Eighty-four percent and 65% of Biden and Trump supporters, respectively, think that major corporations have too much power, but 82% of Biden supports also believe that corporations make too much profit. Trump supporters, on the other hand, are split, with 48% saying corporations make too much profit and 51% believing the profit is fair.
Age and income played a role in the opinions of Trump supporters. Of those age 18 to 49, more than 70% believed the system unfairly benefits powerful interests, while 56% of those age 50 and older say the same thing. Lower and middle income Trump supporter, too, are more likely to believe powerful interests have the edge, but of upper-income supports, 44% percent believe the same and 55% say the economic system is generally fair. Biden supporters across all age groups and income levels say the system unfairly benefits powerful interests.
