A new proposal from the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is predicted to create a series of protections crafted to protect American’s personal information from data brokers.
The regulations, which are yet to be publicly released, are expected to include strict limitations on what kinds of information data brokers are allowed to sell.
Social security information, names, addresses, personal income and criminal history are anticipated to be covered by the restrictions.
Likewise, the regulations would limit data brokers to selling information for valid purposes such as background or financial checks and prevent them from using American’s personal information to train artificial intelligence or unrelated third-party purposes.
