The Joe Biden administration’s top antitrust officials on Wednesday announced new tougher guidelines against tech mergers after being unable to stop Meta’s buyout of Activision.
The Meta-Activision merger was just one of the recent tech deals that the administration has opposed and tried to block.
Lina Khan, the chair of the Federal Trade Commission, and Jonathan Kanter, the top antitrust official at the Department of Justice, announced the new rules for merger reviews.
For the first time, the road map rules, which are aimed at the likes of Google, Meta, Apple and Amazon, include a focus on digital platforms and outlines how dominant companies can use their scale to harm future rivals.
