A new report from a coalition of environmental organizations says the world is far off track from meeting its deforestation goals.
While more than 140 countries pledged to slow deforestation by the end of the decade back in 2021, the report revealed that deforestation actually increased by 4% in 2022 compared to 2021.
This means the world is 21% off from meeting its environmental goals by 2030 as planned.
“The world’s forests are in crisis. The opportunity to make progress is passing us by,” said Climate Focus consultant Erin Matson.
