The United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned Wednesday that there’s “no end in sight” to the growing concentration of greenhouse gases in the planet’s air.
According to the WMO, the concentration of greenhouse gases reached a record high during 2022 at 50% higher than the pre-industrial era.
“Despite decades of warnings from the scientific community, thousands of pages of reports and dozens of climate conferences, we are still heading in the wrong direction,” said WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas.
As greenhouse gas concentrations continue to rise, Taalas cautioned that extreme meteorological events will simultaneously climb in frequency worldwide.
