Oil and gas company Shell is suing environment activist group Greenpeace for $2.1 million, Greenpeace announced Thursday.
The suit alleges that Greenpeace caused damages after boarding one of Shell’s moving vessels to protest drilling back in January of this year.
Shell claims that the protest caused security expenses and shipping delays, and is likewise seeking funds to cover its legal fees.
“The right to protest is fundamental and we respect it absolutely. But it must be done safely and lawfully,” said a Shell spokesperson.
