A study revealed that a natural gas pipeline in Mexico’s Durango state emitted extreme amounts of methane in 2019.
This significant leakage, traced to the El Encino-La Laguna pipeline, was detected using satellite data.
On a specific day, the emission rate reached between 260 and 550 tons per hour.
The pipeline, owned by CFE and operated by Fermaca Pipeline El Encino, has raised concerns about Mexican companies’ adherence to emission reporting and mitigation obligations.
