According to a new scientific report, the financial impact of invasive species on the global economy is already well into the billions of dollars range.
The research alleges that the financial toll of invasive species on the global economy has quadrupled with every passing decade since the 1970s.
Likewise, the report points to invasive species as being responsible for more than 60% of plant and animal species extinctions on record.
With more than 200 foreign species introduced into new areas around the world each year, the cost of invasive species on the economy and the environment is only set to keep rising.
