The economic blows of ending DACA

Ending the program that grants work permits to children of undocumented immigrants could take its toll.

Over 700,000 jobs are at risk as President Donald Trump looks to end the DACA Dreamers Program.

In 2012, President Barack Obama established the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, also known as DACA, which grants children of immigrants temporary protection from deportation and an easy processes to find jobs and social security, among other things.

Ending the DACA Program could cost hundreds of thousands of jobs

Since then, nearly 800,000 young people have had the opportunity to do so, however, in these past days, Donald Trump has announced his plans to to scrap the Dreamers program.

Although some may feel President Trump might be taking a firm decision, there may be more to lose than to gain with the DACA deal being terminated.

The numbers of scrapping DACA

A report from the Center for American Progress (CAP) stated that every month, 30,000 workers could face loosing their jobs over-time, which would represent a 460.3 billion dollars deficit in economic output over the next decade in the United States.

With the decision coming in strong, it is estimated that 685,195 young immigrants would become unemployed almost immediately, causing costs of over 3 billion dollars associated just with employee replacement.

On another side, Medicare and Social Security contributions could be facing a 24.6 billion drop, alarming the industry and obligating immediate and harsh reactions to compensate.

With tensions rising as time goes by, 400 business executives wrote to President Trump in means to urge him to protect Dreamers under any plans for immigration reform.

In the letter reads the following:

“Dreamers are vital to the future of our companies and our economy. With them, we grow and create jobs. They are part of why we will continue to have a global competitive advantage.”

The economic impact does not seem to heavy-weigh on the President´s administration, who does not seem concerned about the economic downfall that can be brought upon the Nation while ending the DACA Program.

Tim Cook speaks out and stands up for “Dreamer” employees

The Apple CEO had something to say after the message Donald Trump delivered regarding the end of the Dreamers Program.

After criticizing Donald Trump following the hate groups attack on Charlottesville, Virginia, Cook says he stands with his 250 “dreamer” employees, who deserve the same American rights and values as any other.

250 of my Apple coworkers are #Dreamers. I stand with them. They deserve our respect as equals and a solution rooted in American values.
