On Wednesday, U.S. automaking giants General Motors and Stellantis announced the respective layoffs of 2,000 and 370 auto workers.
In their statements, the companies claimed the staffing slashes are consequences of the ongoing United Auto Workers strike.
According to GM, the 2,000 employees fired from its Fairfax, Kentucky plant are now ineligible for certain unemployment benefits because of the strike.
UAW President Shawn Fain has said the labor union will prepare to announce more strikes on Friday if the automakers still fail to meet UAW demands.
