Vice President Mike Pence claims China interferes in U.S. politics to undermine Trump.
Just a week after Donald Trump accused China of interfering in American elections to help his Democratic rivals, Vice President Mike Pence accuses China of trying to undermine President Donald Trump through a speech at the Hudson Institute.
“China is using its power in more proactive and coercive ways to interfere in the domestic policies and politics of the United States”, Pence said, “China wants a different American president”.
“By one estimate, more than 80 percent of U.S. counties targeted by China voted for President Trump in 2016; now China wants to turn these voters against our administration,” Pence continued saying, “China is targeting industries and states that would play an important role in the 2018 election”, he sentenced.
Pence warned American businesses and other nations to be vigilant and wary against Chinese business and efforts to leverage access to their markets to modify corporate behavior to their liking.
“China is threatening to deny a business license for a major U.S. corporation if it refused to speak out against our administration’s policies”, he declared, “The United States Navy will continue to fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows and our national interests demand. We will not be intimidated; we will not stand down”.
Last week during a meeting of the U.N. Security Council, Donald Trump mentioned that “regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election (…) “They do not want me, or us, to win because I am the first president ever to challenge China on trade.”
