So long, Beetle!
The Volkswagen Beetle will cease to exist in 2019 as sales have fallen and the automaker says it plans to increase focus solely on electric cars.
VW will release two special edition Beetles before the production finally ends.
“The loss of the Beetle after three generations, over nearly seven decades, will evoke a host of emotions from the Beetle’s many devoted fans,” said Volkswagen President and CEO Hinrich J. Woebcken in a recent statement.
The Volkswagen Beetle was introduced in Nazi Germany in 1938 as “the people’s car”, but it later became associated with 1960’s counterculture in the U.S. with great success in revenue.
