Atari has just announced the AtariBox striking at competitions innovations.
After 20 years, Atari has fired back and responded to its competitions new launchings.
Atari has returned to the hardware business after more than 20 years, and it does with style and grace with the AtariBox, a console based on PC technology that has entered the market aiming to outrun the Nintendo NES and other launches from industry giants such as PlayStation and Xbox.
The AtariBox recreates the console´s original shape and packaging with hints of modern and useful insights, such as HDMI, SD cards and ethernet slots for optimum use. This brand new game system aims to take advantage of the classic gaming library to re-attract a generation that got used to over two decades of glamorous features and innovations such as a vast and immediate game-library, real-time connections with other players and state-of-the-ark technology that opened the possibility of re-launched games with notorious success in past years.
Classic gaming content and nostalgia from the past are the strongest method Atari is using to hop back on the competed marketplace that is being commanded by the top franchises and the wide world of mobile gaming, although, Atari did not give much insight on details from its new release, stating through a corporate newsletter the following message:
“We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, features, pricing, timing etc. We’re not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we’ve opted to share things step by step as we bring Ataribox to life, and to listen closely to Atari community feedback as we do so-” (…) “There are a lot of milestones, challenges and decision points in front of us in the months ahead. We’ll be giving you lots more information and status updates as we progress, and we are thrilled to have you along for the ride!”
So, despite the game has changed since the Atari was definitely discontinued in 1993 following the Atari VCS and Jaguar release, who sold over 30 million consoles in the world at its time, high hopes are ahead for the American manufacturer of computers and video game consoles who had a magnificent industry run from 1984 to 1996 while selling some of the hottest video-game names in history like Pong, Pac-Man and Asteroids. Time will tell if it is enough to establish once again competitive advantage from the competitors.
