More US households subscribe to a video streaming service than traditional pay television.
According to Deloitte’s 13th Digital Media Trends Survey, streaming services have made great progress in recent years. As of today, more households now subscribe to a video streaming service than traditional pay television for the first time since Deloitte started gathering data.
Deloitte’s numbers (graphed by Statista) showed that 69% of U.S. households reported having a subscription to a streaming video service in late 2018, while 65% were paying for regular television. On average, U.S. households currently subscribe to three paid streaming services.
Deloitte finds that the primary reasons consumers are cutting the cord and flocking to streaming is access to shows and movies that are not available anywhere else. That also applies to music, as 41% of the population also said to be a subscriber of a music streaming service, while another 30% said to be paying for a gaming service.
