Rideshare companies Uber and Lyft are threatening to pull service out of Minneapolis if the city passes a new minimum wage ordinance benefiting drivers.
The proposed bill would pay Minneapolis drivers a minimum $1.40 per mile and $0.51 per minute if enacted.
In response, Lyft reportedly sent a letter to the Minneapolis city council saying that “should this proposal become law, Lyft will be forced to cease operations in the City of Minneapolis on its effective date of January 1, 2024.”
Uber likewise reportedly urged its drivers in the area to to contact the local Minneapolis authorities in opposition of the legislature.
