On Monday, a federal jury ruled that technology giant Google’s proprietary app store violates U.S. antitrust laws.
The decision came from Epic Games’ public suit against Google, which alleged that Google’s removal of the developer’s blockbuster game ‘Fortnite’ from its app store after Epic Games encouraged users to download the game off of its website was a monopolistic practice.
Following the verdict, Google announced it would appeal the court’s decision.
Meanwhile, consumer rights activists hailed the trial’s outcome as a significant advance “against one of Google’s most profitable monopolies.”
