With cold and flu season fast approaching, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has revealed that using a certain popular cough decongestant may be unable to keep you from spluttering throughout the holiday season.
According to the FDA, oral administration of the ingredient phenylephrine is effectively useless at providing users nasal congestion relief.
Phenylephrine is used in a variety of over-the-counter drugs such as Nyquil, Sudafed and Benadryl.
So next time you need to quickly clear up some phlegm, steer clear from products with phenylephrine when purchasing cough medications on a whim.
