Compensation costs in private industry averaged $37.24 per hour in September 2021 with wages and salaries averaging $23.36 per hour worked, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Wages accounted for 71% of employee compensation with benefits accounting for 29%.
The highest average compensation costs were in the utilities sector with average compensation being $69 per hour.
The utilities sector was followed by the information sector with approximately $60 per hour, financial activities with $55 per hour, educational services with $50 per hour and professional and business services with $45 per hour.
The least well-paid workers were in the leisure and hospitality industry with compensation costs averaging $16.91 per hour worked in September.
Compensation through benefits for all workers was $10.88 per hour on average.
