Following Friday’s historic Supreme Court ruling declaring President Trump’s tariffs illegal, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency said it will stop all tariff collections imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) effective 12:01 am EST on Tuesday.
The agency said in a message to shippers on its Cargo Systems Messaging Service that the deadline will end the activation of all tariff codes associated with President Trump’s IEEPA-related orders.
According to Vizion, an estimated 211,000 containers of goods valued at $8.2 billion that arrived at U.S. ports between Friday and Sunday will still be subject to IEEPA tariffs.
On Friday, the Supreme Court reshaped the US trade landscape by invalidating the core of President Trump’s tariff strategy, with a 6-3 decision declaring that his broad, sweeping tariffs are unlawful.
The ruling by Chief Justice John Roberts stated, “IEEPA does not authorize the President to impose tariffs.”
