President Trump has threatened to impose 200% tariffs on French wines and champagne after French President Emmanuel Macron said he would not join Trump’s “Board of Peace,” a global body endorsed by the United Nations Security Council established to oversee the Israel-Hamas ceasefire.
Following Macron’s snub, Trump dismissed the French leader’s influence, telling reporters, “Well, nobody wants him because he’s going to be out of office very soon… So you know, that’s all right. What I’ll do is, if they feel like [being] hostile, I’ll put a 200% tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he’ll join. But he doesn’t have to join.”
Macron’s five-year presidential term will conclude in May 2027, and according to French law, he is ineligible to run for a third term.
Following a phone call with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, President Trump announced that he will meet this week with various parties at the World Economic Forum in Davos regarding Greenland.
President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “As I expressed to everyone, very plainly, Greenland is imperative for National and World Security. There can be no going back — On that, everyone agrees! The United States of America is the most powerful Country anywhere on the Globe, by far.”
Speaking to reporters, Trump downplayed the chances of Europe resisting his plans to take control of Greenland. “I don’t think they’re going to push back too much,” he said. “We have to have it …They can’t protect it.”
