President Donald Trump confirmed that the U.S. has reached a trade deal with Indonesia after negotiating directly with the nation’s President, Prabowo Subianto.
The agreement involves the US imposing a 19% tariff on Indonesian exports, down from the 32% initially threatened by Trump.
Today, Indonesian officials confirmed the deal, telling reporters, “This is an extraordinary struggle by our negotiating team led by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs.”
In a post on Instagram, President Prabowo stated that the two nations “agreed and concluded to take trade relations between Indonesia and the United States into a new era of mutual benefit between our two great nations.”
President Trump announced on Truth Social, “Great deal, for everybody, just made with Indonesia. I dealt directly with with their highly respected President. DETAILS TO FOLLOW!!!”
The deal with Indonesia comes as the EU’s trade chief, Maros Sefcovic, heads to Washington today to seek a reduction in the 30% tariff on imports from the EU, which Trump announced last week.
Sefcovic will meet with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
