New data from Salesforce shows online sales in the U.S. on the Thanksgiving holiday are expected to rise 6% compared with last year to reach $8.6 billion.
Black Friday, the biggest day of the year for online shopping, is expected to generate $78 billion in global online sales and $18 billion in the U.S.
Salesforce’s report shows that consumers are capitalizing on large discounts offered by retailers, despite macroeconomic uncertainties caused by tariffs.
As of 2 p.m. ET, Thanksgiving spending in the U.S. was 5.8% higher than at the same time last year, reaching $2.6 billion.
Salesforce in September projected that U.S. online sales growth during the 2025 holiday season would slow compared to last year, with online spending from November 1 to December 31 expected to increase by 2.1% to $288 billion, versus a 4% rise to $282 billion in the same period last year.
Several holiday sales forecasts predicted this year’s holiday season would be subdued, with Mastercard data indicating that sales would mainly be fueled by promotions as consumers look for value.
