Workers’ unions on Friday called for walkouts at more than 150 Starbucks stores across the country this week after employees said Pride Month decorations were banned in some shops.
The company has denied that claim, issuing a statement declaring that it “has been and will continue to be at the forefront of supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.”
But Starbucks Workers United, which represents about 8,000 of the company’s workers in more than 300 stores, said that some Starbucks managers have refused to let the decorations be displayed.
In response, Starbucks, which has roughly 9,300 corporate-owned stores in the United States, has said decoration policies are often specific to each store.
