Following a scorching first day of a federal case over Microsoft’s proposed $70 billion acquisition of the video game giant Activision Blizzard on Thursday, the tech giant warned that if the judge continues to delay the buyout with additional injunctions, the deal could fall through altogether.
Speaking on behalf of Microsoft, the company’s lead lawyer, Beth Wilkinson, said that the legal obstacles being imposed by the government have tied up the purchase of three years.
If more delay tactics are imposed by the government, she said, Microsoft could abandon the transaction, which was due to take place on July 18.
The Federal Trade Commission has asked for an additional injunction to bar Microsoft from completing the deal until the case is settled.
