The heads of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard defended the planned merger of their companies in court on Thursday, saying that the deal will not impact competition.
During a hearing that could decide the fate of the $75 billion deal, Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella said after the merger, the software giant will continue to make Activision games available on other platforms.
“I would love to get rid of the exclusives on consoles, but that’s not for me to define,” he said. “I have no love for that world.” Activision CEO Bobby Kotick made similar promises its games, including the Call of Duty franchise, would remain available for other platforms, such as Sony.
The Federal Trade Commission has sought an injunction to stop Microsoft from closing the deal before the commission makes a call on the acquisition in its in-house administrative court.
