Trump’s “Liberation Day” has arrived today and the President is due to announce his latest tariffs at a Rose Garden ceremony at 4 pm ET. According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, today’s tariffs will go into effect “immediately.”
The specifics of today’s decisions remain unknown; however, according to Leavitt, the “Liberation Day” trade policies are expected to be the most aggressive tariff move yet and one of the “most important days” in U.S. history. “The president will be announcing a tariff plan that will roll back the unfair trade practices that have been ripping off our country for decades. He’s doing this in the best interest of the American worker,” she stated.
Speaking to the media on Monday, President Trump remarked that he had “settled” on the tariffs, and although numbers are still unclear, market experts predict the tariffs to be around 20%.
Other ideas suggest that the reciprocal tariffs would begin with the “Dirty 15” – the 15% of nations with which the United States has large trade deficits. However, Trump appeared to disagree, stating, “You’d start with all countries, so let’s see what happens… I haven’t heard a rumor about 15 countries, 10 or 15.”
