Nvidia CEO and co-founder Jensen Huang expressed support for the Trump administration’s plan to “re-industrialize” technology manufacturing domestically, calling it “exactly the right thing.”
In a sit-down interview, Huang mentioned that, at present, the US is “missing” investment in manufacturing. “That passion, the skill, the craft of making things; the ability to make things is valuable for economic growth — it’s value for a stable society with people who can create a wonderful life and a wonderful career without having to get a PhD in physics.”
Addressing America’s concerns about AI taking jobs, Nvidia’s CEO stated, “Everybody’s jobs will be affected. Some jobs will be lost. Many jobs will be created and what I hope is that the productivity gains that we see in all the industries will lift society.”
“The fundamental thing is this, do we have more ideas left in society? And if we do, if we’re more productive, we’ll be able to grow,” he added, “AI is the greatest technology equalizer we’ve ever seen… It lifts the people who don’t understand technology.”
Huang stated that bringing chip manufacturing back to the US would reduce pressure on Taiwan, home to the world’s largest semiconductor producer, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
“Having a rich ecosystem of industries and manufacturing so that we could, on the one hand, make the United States better but also reduce our dependency — sole dependency — on other countries, is a smart move,” Huang concluded.
Nvidia stock has increased since the CEO’s remarks.
