Jeff Bezos will act as co-CEO of a new AI startup dedicated to engineering and manufacturing AI for computers, autos, and spacecraft.
According to the NYT, the company known as Project Prometheus has secured $6.2 billion in funding, partly from the Amazon founder, making it one of the most well-funded early-stage startups worldwide.
This marks Bezos’ first operational position since he stepped down as Amazon’s CEO in July 2021.
Project Prometheus has already employed nearly 100 people, including researchers from leading AI companies like OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta.
Bezos will be joined at the top by Vik Bajaj, a physicist and chemist who collaborated closely with Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin at Google’s X, a research initiative often referred to as “The Moonshot Factory”.
Bezos is re-entering the AI market as many smaller companies try to succeed with innovative software and products, competing against industry giants like OpenAI, supported by Microsoft, Meta, and Google.
