After a long night of negotiations, early Thursday morning the U.S. House of Representatives confirmed that it is on track to pass President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill by the July 4 deadline.
At around 3am, House Speaker Mike Johnson told the media, “We have the votes… We’re still going to meet the deadline.”
Despite Republicans holding majorities in both the House and Senate, Trump’s key legislation faced fierce resistance. Before the announcement, Trump voiced his frustration with cost-conscious conservative voters who delayed the bill’s green-light.
Trump wrote on Truth Social; “Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove??? MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT’S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!”
During the final vote, the House lost only one Republican, Representative Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania. Republican Representative Warren Davidson of Ohio reversed his previous opposition to the legislation, agreeing to support the bill. “This bill isn’t perfect, but it’s the best we’ll get.”
The newly amended bill, now scheduled to be passed on July 4, is estimated to add $3.4 trillion to the national deficit.
