Ford Motor announced on Thursday that it is recalling 4.3 million pickup trucks and SUVs in the U.S. due to a software issue that could prevent brakes from working and cause exterior lights to fail.
The recall covers the 2021 through 2026 F-150, 2022-2026 F-250 SD, Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, Maverick along with some Ranger and E-Transit vehicles.
Ford plans to update the vehicle software to fix the problem.
In a separate recall of 2017–2019 Explorer SUVs, Ford is recalling 412,774 vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recommended that dealers replace the defective toe links at no cost to owners. No injuries related to the defect have been reported.
Last year, Ford issued over 100 recalls, the highestt among U.S. automakers.
